BCES 3rd graders are really rocking it out this week!  We have read Mrs. Mack by Patricia Polacco and have been working very hard to complete our foldable that accompanies the story!  Our foldable outlines the character's traits and how she changes over time!  Be sure to check out our awesome work-  and Mrs. Mack by Patricia Polacco!!

Welcome to the BCES Theater! Now Showing: Maleficient!  :)

I would like to send a special congratulations to all of the students who worked hard during the first quarter to achieve their Accelerated Reader goals!  Students attending this party have met their AR goal for the quarter and have an overall accuracy of 85%!!  Again, thank you for all your hard work, and we are SOOOO proud of you!

Remember, if you didnt make it this quarter, there is always next quarter to start fresh and work toward your goal!  If you would like some help developing a pacing plan to help you meet your goal, just stop by and see me in the library!

Genre Descriptions

Hey guys!

I worked last night to create a new set of genre signs that I am going to be putting up around the library with the corresponding genre sections.  I hope these signs help you guys when you are browsing, and also when you are trying to figure out what each specific genre means!  Let me know what you think!

The time has come!  I will be working with you guys to teach you more about genres, as well as help familiarize you with the new organization system in the library!  Below is a link to the PowerPoint I will be using to teach you more about genres and tell you a little more about the genres that will be available here in the library!

Starting to see the light!

Well, we still have a mess in the library, but we are finally starting to see the light!  We have almost finished going through all the books, labeling them, and reentering their information into the computer.  Our next step will be grouping them all together and then we will have to organize the books to put them back into alphabetical order.  I will start bringing classes in soon to explain the new organization and discuss genres more in depth.

BTW- I would like to give a shout out to all the students who have volunteered their time over the past couple of weeks!  :)

Boy What a mess!

I have made a huge mess in the library!  We are supposed to have books, but are they supposed pile everywhere?!?!?  I didnt realize we had this many books to take off the shelves! :)   Mrs. Lewlling, Mrs. Smith, and I are still working hard to go through all the books.  I appreciate your patience and promise that the new system is going to be amazing!  I am excited that you guys will be able to browse through the books, and be able to find likeness across the books located within a genre.  I think this will present a great opportunity for some of you guys to break out of your comfort zone and start reading books other than just the popular titles!  It's going to be great!

Genrefying the Collection

Have you noticed all the piles of books in the library??? That's because Mrs. Lewelling, Mrs. Smith, and I have decided to genrefy the fiction collection!  We will be going through every single book in fiction collection!  That's a lot of books!  We will be checking the books, and discarding books that are damaged or severely outdated.  While we are checking the books, we will sort the books and then place genre stickers on the backs of the spines!  This is going to be one HUGE project!!

Before and After

Well Friends,

I think I am finally finished decorating and moving the library around, until summer break anyway! ;)   It has been a long journey with some late evenings and lots of help from my AMAZING husband (figured I better give him a shout out for all his hard work), but I couldnt be happier with the results!  I feel like the library looks more vibrant and alive, but Ill let you be the judge!  Check out the pics below!

BOOK FAIR!!!!!

When I was a young student, I would always get very excited when the book fair came to school! So now, on the opposite end, as a media coordinator, I was curious to see how I would feel about the book fair!  Good news!  I am still SUPER excited! :)  The book fair came this morning, and we finished setting up just in time for the dismissal bell to ring!  Whew it has been a long day!  Dont forget tomorrow night is our open house!  Bring your parents and swing by the book fair for some exciting deals!

Happy Fall!

International Dot Day

One of my favorite things about libraries is the diversity offered in all of the books!  I love being able to pick a book about any topic I want and having the freedom and opportunity to learn more about the subject!  Today we celebrated International Dot Day by reading The Dot by Peter Reynolds and by creating our own dots!  We found out that there are many different ways to create dots....even by not actually drawing a "dot."  I am so proud of the hard work and creativity that Mrs. Otis's first grade class put into this project!

Dont forget to celebrate our differences! :)

Battle of the Books

Hey guys!

Just a heads up that I will be having a quick meeting on Thursday at 1:00 in the library!  The meeting will discuss the upcoming tryouts for Battle of the Books.  I have attached a link below, which will highlight some of the information we will be going over during the meeting.  I have also included a list of the required books/authors for the 2014-15 B.O.B. competition.

SO impressed!

You guys are blowing me away!  I knew that you would do a great job with self checkout, but you have exceeded my expectations by becoming teachers too!  Each of you have been kind and patient to one another, offering helpful advice and troubleshooting errors when fellow students have an issue!  I LOVE seeing all this teamwork!  Keep up the good job guys!

Self Checkout

Today was fantastic!!

Today I met with many of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to discuss our new checkout procedures.  I decided to implement self checkout for grades 3-5.  I know that you guys are ready to be independent, and I personally feel that you're up for the task at hand!  Today we went over the new system and the steps that you guys would need to take!  I know you guys are going to rock this, but in case you need a little reminder- you find a written copy of the steps beside each computer station!

FiRsT DaY Of ScHooL!

Today was the first day of school, and I bet I was as nervous as some of you guys were!!  Did anyone else have trouble falling asleep last night?!  Anyway, even though the library will not be officially open until next week, I was excited to meet some of you guys and thankful that I got to be part of the welcoming committee for our new Kindergarten students!  Today was great, and I'm looking to next 179 school day to get know each and every one of you!  So grateful for the opportunity to be at BCES this year! :)

Working Hard Before School Starts

Remember that "pop" of color I was talking about in my last post?  Well, I have been working round the clock making cute little "pops" of color to add to our library!  I have some cook ideas for the EIGHT bulletin boards the library is responsible for maintaining!  I am pleased so far with the way my projects are turning out, and I cant wait to see how these look when finished!  I also cant wait to get my sun room back in order- YIKES! :)  I've include a sneak peak of a few of the projects I have been working on!  Eeeek!!
