Getting Ready to Celebrate!

Next week is our Read Across America Celebration!  This week we will be gearing up to celebrate reading and Dr. Seuss's birthday! Come by the library and check out some of our cool contests, including our book cover redesign contest!  The winner of the redesign will win a $15.00 gift certificate to the book fair!  We also have some pretty cool Dr. Seuss photo booth props!  So come by and get your picture taken!

SNOW DAY!!!!!

Just wanted to tell you guys that I hope you are enjoying your snow day as much as we are! :)  See you tomorrow, Lord being willing and weather permitting!

Technology and Treats

Today was our AR Celebration for the 2nd quarter!  I am SO very proud of these students for working hard to obtain their goal!  To celebrate their hard work, they have been invited to our "Technology and Treats" party where they will be allowed to bring in a hand held device to play in a designated area while being served some special treats! Board games and laptops were available for students without devices!  Everyone had a blast, and I cant wait for our next celebration!

High School Collaboration

Today, Mrs. Hart's 3rd graders participated in a lesson with a group of Southwest High School's 10th graders.  The high school students worked to create a lesson for the students and read two books, Hooray for Diffendoofer Day by Dr. Seuss and A Bad Case of the Stripes by David Shannon, to the 3rd grade students.  After reading each book, the high school students would ask the 3rd graders comprehension questions and discuss the answers and supporting details from the book.  The students communicated through our Onslow View machine, which is a large television and camera system that is similar to Skype or Facetime, but geared towards schools and allows us to contact all the schools in Onslow County, as well as other schools and areas that participate with Onslow View.  I plan on using this technology to set up virtual field trips next year!
