Summer Reading

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We know you are looking forward to an enjoyable vacation. First of all I would like to thank everyone for a wonderful year!  Also, we hope your child will find time to read this summer. The following book list is suggested reading for the summer.

When helping your child select a book, find one that is interesting and that he/she is comfortable reading; too many unknown words may lead to frustration. If your child is interested in a difficult book, read it to him/her. If the book is too easy, let him/her read it anyway to build fluency and confidence. If the book mentioned is not in your library, look for another book by the same author. Most of these authors have written other good books.

As you read, encourage your child to ask questions, make predictions, and relate the story to his/her own life. Remember to visit your local public library and to participate in their wonderful summer reading program.

Have a terrific summer!
